What is coaching?
Coaching is an interactive process that connects people to their highest level of performance both personally and professionally. Executive Coaching enables a powerful relationship between the coach and client to form. The focus of the relationship is getting the client from where they are, to where they want to be, by identifying and removing the roadblocks that are holding them back. Unique methods, techniques and tools are used in conjunction with the deep inquiry process.
How is coaching different from counseling or consulting?
Counseling
Counseling involves processing and resolving the client’s internal conflicts and psychological distress, similar to therapy. The internal conflicts and psychological stresses stem from the past. In Executive Coaching, the client is considered well and in a space of moving their life forward to the next level. Coaching does not deal with the past. Instead, it acknowledges the past in order to move forward.
Consulting
Consultants are retained to assess a given situation and provide the solution. However, coaching adopts the premise that the solution or answers are all within the client. The coach uses a line of inquiry and employs various tools/ exercises to get the client to arrive at the answer on their own.
What can i expect from the executive coaching process?
The coaching process involves following these four (4) distinct phases:
(1) Assessment/ data gathering;
(2) Establishment of expectations of the Executive Coaching process;
(3) The actual Executive Coaching process; and
(4) Follow-up
A pre-coaching survey is given in the assessment/ data-gathering phase. The survey gives the coach and the client a starting point for where the client is and where the client wants to focus. A mid-point and final survey is also given to measure the growth of the client as a result of the coaching.
